Effects of Carbon Ion Beam Irradiation on Phenotypic Variations and Biochemical Parameters in Early Generations of Soybean Plants

Understanding the characteristics of carbon ion beam irradiation-induced mutation is essential to its potential application in plant breeding. A beam-mutagenized soybean population was generated from newly released variety Dongsheng 28, with irradiation dosages 100 Gy, 120 Gy and 140 Gy. Many phenotypic variations novel mutants heritable tendencies including height mutants, sterile early mature rolled leaves short petioles yield-related lodging-resistant were identified. Diverse seed size, protein oil concentration found. Increasing dosage increased leaf chlorophyll M1 generation, but this effect significantly reduced M2 generation.
